Michael Bolton is taking a step back from touring this year as he recovers from a recent surgery to remove a brain tumor.
"Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success," the Grammy-winning singer, 70, shared in a social media post on Friday.
"I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family. For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring," his statement reads. "It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon."
The "When a Man Loves a Woman" singer expressed gratitude for his fans' "love and support" over the years and promised to share "more updates as soon as I can."
According to Bolton's website, he has tour dates scheduled from February through May in North America and Switzerland, with an additional show featuring Bonnie Tyler planned for July in London. It was not immediately clear what would happen to these shows.
Bolton had a show scheduled for Dec. 17, 2023, at Mohegan Sun Arena in his home state of Connecticut, but the former Blackjack frontman had to reschedule the performance for December 2024. The postponement was "due to illness," the venue shared in a Dec. 7 media alert.
"Michael is deeply sorry to his fans and looks forward to performing again once he’s feeling better," the statement reads.
Bolton had a busy 2023 — a year in which he celebrated 50 years in the music industry. In July, he released his first new album of original songs in 14 years, "Spark of Light," and followed it up with a holiday album, "Christmas Time."
In November, he performed in "The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration." Earlier in the year, Bolton was revealed to be The Wolf on "The Masked Singer."
