Nara Smith doesn’t have a taste for hatred.
The 22-year-old influencer—best known for her from-scratch cooking videos—spoke out on the hate she and husband Lucky Blue Smith, 26, have received over her family-focused content.
“People on Twitter had a field day, hating on us,” Nara told GQ in an interview published Aug. 7. “I’d get screenshots of people saying insanely rude things—so hateful, and so spiteful.”
The criticism is often directed at videos of her making food for Lucky and their three kids—Rumble Honey, 3, Slim Easy, 2, and Whimsy Lou, 3 months—with many accusing the clips of perpetuating the “tradwife” lifestyle, a.k.a. the viral label given to social media stars whose content adheres to the traditional gender roles of a wife, homemaker and stay-at-home mom.
But Nara doesn’t see their lives that way.
“It’s not so much about: Oh, I need to make my husband a meal right now, or else he’s going to be mad,” she explained. “He does cleanup. Which I’m grateful for, because I hate that part.”
And Lucky echoed her sentiments. As he put it to GQ, “I view our situation as a big partnership in every aspect of our lives.”
And while Nara is passionate about the platform that she’s built on TikTok, she also prioritizes creating a solid foundation for her kids.
“I want to build my life with them rather than trying to integrate them into my life later,” she says. “And it worked out great. I love being a young mom.”
As for whether Nara and Lucky—who also shares daughter Gravity Blue, 7, with ex Stormi Bree—have plans to expand their family anytime soon? Nara is happy with where things currently stand.
“After Whimsy, we are absolutely done now,” she confessed. “Having toddlers is the best sort of birth control, because they’re wild.”
