Michigan woman becomes first grand prize winner of state's Halloween-themed instant game

A Michigan woman plans to create a new beginning for her family after winning $500,000 from the state's instant game.
The 41-year-old woman purchased her winning ticket for the Michigan Lottery Halloween-themed instant game called Ghostbusters for $5 at Special Way Food Store on 378 West Huron Street in Pontiac. She chose to remain anonymous.
"I don't play instant tickets often, but I saw the Ghostbusters ticket while I was at the store and thought: 'Why not?'" the woman told Michigan Lottery. "When I scratched the ticket and saw I'd won $500,000, I read the directions over and over again and looked the ticket over for at least an hour."
Upon winning, the 41-year-old drove to her local lottery office to verify her ticket, as she could hardly believe her luck. The lottery employee scanned her ticket and confirmed her win by telling her she needed to take the ticket to lottery headquarters in Lansing.
The woman made the trip and claimed her prize. She plans to use the money to help her family, pay bills, and bolster savings.
"Winning this prize is the start of a new beginning for me and my family," the player share with lottery officials.
The Michigan Lottery announced that instant game players won over $1.7 billion in 2022.

What is the Ghostbusters instant game?
Ghostbusters, a game launched by the Michigan Lottery in September, has already rewarded players with over $4 million in winnings.
The game offers a $5 ticket, providing players with chances to win prizes ranging from $5 all the way up to $500,000.

The chances of winning any prize from Ghostbusters are 1 in 4.04.
There are still more than $26 million in prizes to be won, including two grand prizes of $500,000, five prizes worth $10,000, and 26 prizes worth $2,500.
Where can you buy lottery tickets?
Tickets can be purchased in-person at gas stations, convenience stores and grocery stores. Some airport terminals may also sell lottery tickets.
